Review

Two turtles find a hat in the desert. They try the hat on, and it looks good on both of them. But there is only one hat, and there are two turtles. There is only one thing to do. They have to leave the hat in the desert and forget they ever found it. But the shifting eyes of one of the turtles tells us it’s not quite that easy…

We Found a Hat conveys a message of friendship through its deceptively simple text and illustrations. The subdued palette draws the viewer’s focus to the eyes and prompts us to infer the characters’ unspoken thoughts. The sentences in this story are short and repetitive, making it perfect for targeting grammatical elements such as pronouns.
